Do you leave car parked in the driveway all the time, because there is no room for it in your garage? Well, you are not alone, this happens to a lot of people. But, don’t worry I’ll help you get that clutter free garage that you have always wanted.
Lets start the decluttering process by assessing all of the items in the garage, one by one. You will need to consider how long the item has been stored in the garage. If you have not used an item in about three of four years, then it is time to get rid of it.
One of the things that people typically hold on to is partially used cans of paint. It is time to get rid of all those old paint cans. Especially, if it is a custom-mixed color that you purchased a long time ago and have not used it since then.
There are lots of items that make their way into the garage. The next item that most people have in the garage is sporting equipment. Do not keep any sporting items that are damaged. No one wants to play tennis with that broken racket.
Other things, often stored here, are auto parts. If you no longer own the vehicle that the parts belong to, then get rid of them. If the item is broken then, of course, dispose of it properly. The next thing to evaluate is your ladders, make sure that they are in good condition, safe and sturdy enough to be used.
Next, some people also have bicycles, tricycles and other recreational vehicles stored in here. If you have a bike that is in poor condition and cannot be repaired, then toss it out. If you children have outgrown any items, maybe it is time to donate (if it is in good condition) to someone who can actually use it. After all, it is just sitting there useless at this point. Make it a habit to declutter on a regular basis.
Go through and evaluate your tools. Think about how often you use each item, get rid of any items that you never use. If it is broken and cannot be fixed then, of course, throw it away. Any tools, that are used often, should be stored either in a tool box or on a pegboard with hooks. That way, it gets these items up off of the floor and makes them easily accessible. This will free up floor space, that you will need, to park your vehicle.
